Answers to common questions about exotic animal veterinary care at ARACAVIA. We care for rabbits and other small mammals, birds and reptiles in Málaga, with facilities and equipment adapted to these species’ needs.
ARACAVIA is a veterinary clinic exclusively for exotic animals. We do not treat dogs or cats, allowing us to focus our facilities, equipment and daily work specifically on the species we care for.
We mainly work by appointment so we can give each patient the time they need and reduce waiting. If you are unsure whether your animal needs assessment or what information to bring, contact reception before your visit.
The answers on this page are general guidance and do not replace individual assessment. In exotic animals, apparently small changes in appetite, behaviour, breathing or activity may be important and must be interpreted in the context of the species and the patient’s clinical condition.
Please bring any previous veterinary reports, laboratory results, radiographs, current treatment details or other clinical records you have. It is also useful to know the animal’s usual diet, supplements or medication, and any recent changes in behaviour, appetite, weight, urine or droppings.
If relevant, bring photographs or videos showing behaviour or symptoms that are not present all the time. If you have questions about transport or whether to bring a sample, ask reception in advance.
ARACAVIA specialises in exotic animal medicine. We treat rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and other small mammals; birds such as lovebirds, budgerigars, cockatiels, canaries, African greys and macaws; and reptiles such as tortoises, turtles, snakes and lizards, among other species.
If you have a less common species and want to check whether we can see them, contact reception before booking.
No. ARACAVIA works exclusively with exotic animals and does not treat dogs or cats. This specialisation lets us adapt our facilities, equipment, training and working protocols to the species we usually see.
Yes, we recommend booking ahead so we can organise care and allow enough time to examine the patient and assess their case.
If you think your animal needs prompt attention, contact reception directly to explain the situation and check current availability.
As well as exotic animal consultations, ARACAVIA has facilities for radiography, ultrasound, laboratory testing, surgery, endoscopy and hospitalisation, among other services. The need for each test or procedure is assessed individually based on the species, examination findings and clinical problem.
If diagnostic tests, treatment or further procedures are recommended during a consultation, we will explain the cost beforehand. We provide estimates so you can understand the proposed care before it is carried out, whenever the patient’s condition allows.
If you have not yet acquired a pet, we recommend responsible adoption. Many exotic pets, as well as dogs, have lost their families for different reasons and need a new home. Ask us or search online for relevant rescue organisations.
