DOUBLE EGG BINDING

This lovely cockatiel was admitted with dystocia: an inability to lay an egg at the expected time, which can have several causes.

She stayed in hospital so we could establish a medical plan to help her lay with as little risk as possible, and we succeeded.

During the first 12 hours, we supported her with medication, calcium, fluids and feeding.

Finally, applying a hormonal gel helped her dilate and lay the egg herself, without surgery or oxytocin, both of which carry risks. Although working with sick animals always involves some risk, we aim for the safest recommended options based on the individual case and diagnostic tests. A round of applause for Bella
